Your Glow-Up Guide: Essential Post-Microneedling Care for Best Results
Congratulations on completing your microneedling treatment. To ensure you achieve the best possible results, please follow these post-treatment instructions carefully. Your skin will thank you!
Your Post-Treatment Care Plan:
- Do not use any products aside from the treatment kit (glide gel and biocellulose mask) for the first 24 hours post treatment.
- SPF/makeup: Patients can resume SPF and all skincare/makeup that does not contain active ingredients (retinols, toning pads, vitamin C) after 24 hours.
- Sun Protection: Wear a hat when in the sun and apply SPF regularly after 24 hours. Skip the tanning beds and self-tanning products for 7-14 days as well.
- Hands Off: Avoid picking, exfoliating, or using any vitamin A products (like Retin-A) for 7 days post-treatment. Steer clear of chemical peels for 14 days.
- Shaving: Refrain from shaving for 3 days, and if your skin is still irritated, wait a bit longer.
- No Sweat: Hold off on exercising, using Jacuzzis, saunas, or steam baths until any irritation has resolved.
- Ice Packs & Pineapple: If you experience discomfort or swelling, ice packs and Tylenol are okay. Eating fresh pineapple or drinking pineapple juice can also help minimize bruising and swelling.
Your Post-Treatment Timeline:
- Day 1: Your skin will likely be red, tight, dry, and/or sensitive. Some stinging and swelling are normal. Drink plenty of water, skip the makeup, and stick to your glide gel. Use Tylenol for any pain but avoid anti-inflammatory medications like Motrin and Ibuprofen as they may interfere with your results.
- Day 2: Expect similar symptoms as Day 1—dry, tight, and red skin. Can resume SPF and gentle skincare after 24 hours.
- Day 3: The redness should be fading. If skin is feeling normal now, resume normal skincare. If skin is not yet healed, hold off on returning to normal products until day 7.
- Day 7: You’re on your way to glowing skin! You can now resume using your regular skincare products, including vitamin A. Continue to protect your skin from the sun.
- Days 8-28: Keep avoiding direct sun exposure. Use a minimum of SPF 30 when outdoors or even in the car and remember to reapply every 1 to 1½ hours while outside.
Following these guidelines will help you maximize the benefits of your microneedling treatment and keep your skin looking its best.
